Great Eastern races for charity with Car Rally 2008
100 Great Eastern-branded cars hit the roads on a
treasure hunt spanning Singapore and Malaysia, as part
of the company’s centennial celebrations

Singapore, 26 July 2008: With the sound of the starting horn, 100 Great Eastern-branded cars - ferrying 355 Great Eastern life planners, their families and friends - sped off on an exciting cross-country road treasure hunt this morning. Organised by the Great Eastern Life Planners Association (GELPA), the car rally was held in conjunction with the celebration of Great Eastern’s centennial. GELPA also took this opportunity to donate $20,000 to the company’s WeCARE (We Embrace Children And Respect Elders) Fund , which contributes towards four adopted charities under Community Chest.

The GELPA Car Rally 2008 was flagged off by Mr Tan Beng Lee, Director and Group CEO, Great Eastern at 8 am today at East Coast Park. He said, “At Great Eastern, we believe in making life great with financial security, good health and meaningful relationships. Our life planners are among the strongest advocates of this mission. They not only work hard, but they also play hard! As we mark our Centennial in a month’s time, there is no better way to show our appreciation to the life planners than to salute them for their zest for life. It is great that they are spending some quality, yet fun time with their families, friends and policyholders through this car rally.“

Presenting the cheque of $20,000 for WeCARE Fund to Mr Tan, the President of GELPA, Ms Linda Chua said, “We will remember today’s car rally with fond memories. After all, how often do we get to spend a day of fun and laughter like this with our loved ones and friends? I am also very happy that through today’s car rally, GELPA has raised $20,000 which will go into the WeCARE Fund. Isn’t it great that we can have fun and do good at the same time?”

The entourage of 100 cars is required to answer questions and participate in games at several checkpoints along the 300-kilometre journey from Singapore to Malaysia in order to gather clues to proceed to the final destination in Port Dickson. After a full day’s drive, participants will be treated to a scrumptious dinner, rounding off with delicious durians for dessert.

The winning team of the car rally who manages to complete all the challenges and answer all questions correctly at the various checkpoints in Singapore and Malaysia at the end of today will walk away with $2,000 in cash, while the first runner-up and second runner-up teams will take home $1,000 and $500 respectively.
