"There is
no friendship, no love, like that of the parent for the child."
- Henry Ward Beecher |
Parenting is an euphoric experience equaled by
nothing else in this world. And if family counselors and our Government
are to be believed, children are rather super human beings –
they complete our marriages, unite the family and are treasures
beyond a price. Right? Well, consider this.
The Straits Times reported in 2004 that it will cost a Singaporean
about S$277,000 to bring up a child from zero to graduation from
a local university... and tuition fee at that time was S$6,000 per
annum.
Fast forward to 2008 and beyond. Assuming a conservative inflation
rate of 3%, it will cost as much as $472,000 to bring up a child
from 2008 conception to 2032 graduation from a local university.
Indeed, parenting is a huge and costly responsibility. As soon as
Baby is born and named, he is yours to feed, clothe, teach, school,
support, nurture and everything in between. No wonder Newsweek magazine
labelled parenting as "The Toughest Job You'll Ever Love."
At Great Eastern, we recognise the challenges today’s parents
face as they juggle multiple roles. All at once they have to be
responsible parents, devoted spouses, filial children to their own
parents; and at their workplaces, diligent employees and caring
superiors. Which is why our mantra of making life great for our
customers really begins from the cradle.
Parenting is an everyday job and at Great Eastern, we are committed
to providing you with information, web-based tools, and support
networks relevant to your specific stage of parenting - from Baby's
first steps, his toddler-hood through his schooldays. Saving for
Baby’s future, like raising him, takes time and the rewards
are in the process as much as the results. So start now!
